Project Description
The project, valued at UGX 500 million, focused on empowering smallholder farmers by providing modern greenhouse farming infrastructure and training in climate-resilient agricultural practices. This initiative was part of our ongoing efforts to promote sustainable farming solutions and improve food security in the region
The project involved the installation of 30 greenhouse units across several districts in the Albertine area, designed to support year-round crop production. Each greenhouse was equipped with advanced irrigation systems, including drip irrigation technology, to ensure efficient water use and maximize productivity. The farmers were trained in the operation and management of the greenhouses, focusing on high-value crops such as tomatoes, peppers, and leafy greens.
In addition to the greenhouse installations, Fincorp Agro provided comprehensive training in post-harvest management to reduce losses and improve the marketability of the crops. The project also facilitated the creation of a farmer cooperative network, allowing participating farmers to bulk their produce for joint marketing, increasing their bargaining power and access to larger markets.
Project Challenges

Initial Resistance to New Technology: Some farmers were hesitant to adopt greenhouse farming practices, as they were more accustomed to traditional farming methods. Overcoming skepticism required additional training sessions and demonstrations to show the long-term benefits of greenhouse farming.
High Setup Costs
Logistical Constraints
Project Result

Improved Crop Quality: The controlled environment in the greenhouses resulted in healthier, higher-quality crops that were less prone to pests and diseases, making the produce more marketable and fetching higher prices.
